Local SEO in Acton
Acton is not one place, and that is the whole problem. Getting found here means being visible across half a dozen sub-areas that people search for separately.
Most local SEO advice assumes you are in a town with one name and one centre. Acton has Acton Central, East Acton, South Acton, West Acton, North Acton, Acton Town, and Park Royal on its edge, and people searching genuinely use those names.
The result is that a business optimised for the word “Acton” quietly misses a chunk of its own market. I am a digital marketing consultant based in West London with over 10 years of experience, and this is one of the most common things I fix around W3.
The three problems specific to Acton
1. Your area name is fragmented
Someone in East Acton searching for a tradesperson often types “East Acton”, not “Acton”. Someone near North Acton station may search “Park Royal”. These behave as separate searches, and if your site and your Google listing only ever say “Acton”, you are relying on Google to make the connection for you.
The fix is not to stuff every variation into your footer, which does more harm than good. It is to name the areas you actually serve in ordinary sentences on the relevant pages, and to set your service areas properly on your Google Business Profile.
2. You are sitting between two stronger high streets
Ealing Broadway to the west and Shepherd’s Bush to the east both pull search attention, and both have businesses with older, better-established websites. An Acton business competing on a generic term is fighting on someone else’s ground.
The way through is specificity rather than volume. A page that is genuinely about what you do in W3 will beat a bigger competitor’s generic page for the searches that actually matter to you, because relevance is the one factor where being small is not a disadvantage.
3. A lot of Acton businesses have no fixed shopfront
Trades, mobile services, and home-based consultancies dominate here, and Google’s rules for displaying an address are strict. If you do not have permanent signage and staff on site during your stated hours, you should be set up as a service-area business, which keeps your address private and shows the areas you cover instead.
Getting this wrong risks a suspended listing, which is a far bigger problem than not having one. I have covered the detail in my guide to why a business does not show on Google Maps.
What the work involves
The same three things Google says decide local results: relevance, distance, and prominence. You cannot change distance, so the work concentrates on the other two.
- Relevance: correct primary and secondary categories, a listing that describes what you actually sell, and pages on your site that match how people around here search.
- Prominence: a website worth linking to, reviews collected properly, and consistent business details everywhere they appear.
- Foundations: Search Console and Analytics set up, Rank Math configured, and the technical problems cleared out first so the rest has something to stand on.
Bronze · £600
One-off, 2 to 4 weeks, 10 pages included. Analytics and Search Console set up, Rank Math configured, on-page work across 10 pages, sitemap submitted.
Silver · £1,000
One-off, 3 to 6 weeks, 15 pages. Everything in Bronze plus competitor analysis across three local rivals, backlink analysis, and schema markup.
Gold · £1,800
One-off, 6 to 8 weeks, 25 pages. Everything in Silver plus the Google Business Profile and local directory work, a technical audit, and extended keyword research.
Fixed-price projects, no monthly retainer required. It is Gold that includes the Google Business Profile and local directory work, so that is the one to pick if the map results are your priority. Full detail is on my SEO packages page, and the wider argument for local search is on my Ealing local SEO page.

Frequently asked questions
Should I have separate pages for East Acton, South Acton, and so on?
Only if each page genuinely says something different. Near-identical pages with the area name swapped are a well-known way to make things worse. Usually one strong page that names the areas naturally does more.
I work from home in Acton. Can I still appear on Google Maps?
Yes. Set up as a service-area business and Google keeps your address private while showing the areas you cover. It is the right setup for most trades and home-based businesses here.
How long does it take?
Listing changes show within days. Meaningful movement in the map results usually takes two to three months, because prominence builds slowly.
