How Independent Business Owners can Make the Most of ChatGPT

Chat GPT

ChatGPT is something that, by now, most business owners have heard of and the majority will have experimented with to see how useful it can be. So, what’s all the excitement about? I know I’m a bit late to the bandwagon, but it would be wrong for me to not comment on how independent businesses can use ChatGPT and also highlight some of its limitations!

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is an AI tool that can be used to generate answers to text prompts in a human-like way. It can be used by independent business owners to generate content, but as with anything it comes with a warning from me. It might seem like a quick and easy way to create all of your website posts, content and social media but it will destroy your tone and personality that comes through. Don’t risk losing valuable customers by handing over your personality to AI.

What are its limitations?

If ChatGPT is used wrongly it can look spammy and create a robotic voice that will turn potential customers away. Don’t risk damaging your brand by trusting AI – recognise it has its limits too!

If your content sounds identical to every other business in your industry your brand gets lost amongst a sea of talk. Your brand personality and tone for your business are part of your Unique Selling Point (USP) and so should shine through in your content. This is something that ChatGPT is unable to produce.

So, what can it be useful for?

When used correctly it can support your content creation, business marketing strategy or your email marketing. You can use it to generate ideas for your blogs, brainstorm your new email advice or generate social media calendars. These are high level topics in your marketing strategy, and the detail should be left to you!

One way to get the most out of ChatGPT is ask it to respond as an expert. For instance, instead of asking it to:

“Create blog ideas for a small business who does website design.”

You should instead say:

Answering as a marketing expert and experienced copywriter, create some blog ideas for a small business who does web design.”

This is more likely to generate concepts and ideas that are more relevant and thought through.

ChatGPT is a great tool to use for developing ideas and brainstorming content. However, it is just that – a tool. You can learn to use it in the best way possible, and to support your digital marketing, but it shouldn’t replace the human aspect of your business.
